For Authors
1. General Information

Books and book chapters submitted to Pen Academic Publishing must be prepared in accordance with the principles of scholarly publishing, publication ethics and the formatting requirements of the publisher.

Before submitting their work, authors must carefully review these guidelines, use the manuscript template and upload all required files to the submission system.

2. Accepted Publication Types

Book Submission

Single-authored, multi-authored or edited scholarly, academic and professional books.

Book Chapter Submission

Original academic chapters prepared for publication within an edited book.

3. Submission Files

The following files must be uploaded for a submission to be considered for evaluation.

Full-Text Manuscript The book or book chapter manuscript prepared in accordance with the manuscript template. Required
Publishing Agreement The publishing agreement signed by the author or all contributing authors. Required
Figures and Supplementary Files High-resolution images, tables, data files and other supplementary materials. If applicable
Ethics Committee Approval Ethics committee approval for research requiring ethical review. If applicable
Permission Documents Permission documents for copyrighted tables, figures, scales, photographs or other materials. If applicable
4. Writing and Formatting Requirements
Manuscripts must be prepared using the current manuscript template provided by the publisher.

File format

The full-text manuscript must be submitted in Microsoft Word format with a .doc or .docx file extension.

Page layout

Page size, margins, fonts, line spacing and paragraph settings must follow the specifications provided in the manuscript template.

Headings

Headings and subheadings must be organised and numbered consistently. Unnecessary heading levels should be avoided.

Language and style

Manuscripts must be written in clear academic language and comply with grammar, spelling and punctuation rules.


Recommended structure for book chapters

  1. Chapter title
  2. Author name, affiliation and ORCID
  3. Abstract and keywords
  4. Translated title, abstract and keywords
  5. Introduction
  6. Main sections and subsections
  7. Conclusion and recommendations
  8. References
5. Title and Author Information
  • The title must clearly and accurately reflect the content of the work.
  • The full name and surname of each author must be provided.
  • Institution, department, city and country information must be included.
  • Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID identifiers.
  • The corresponding author must be clearly identified and a current email address must be provided.
  • The order of authors must be finalised with the approval of all authors before submission.
6. Abstract and Keywords

Academic book chapters should preferably include abstracts in both the primary language of the manuscript and English. The abstract should clearly present the purpose, scope, approach and main conclusions of the work.

  • The abstract should preferably contain between 150 and 250 words.
  • References should not be cited in the abstract.
  • Tables, figures, footnotes and explanatory notes should not be included in the abstract.
  • Three to six keywords representing the content of the work should be provided.
7. Tables, Figures and Images
  • Tables and figures must be placed in the relevant locations within the manuscript.
  • All tables, figures and images must be numbered consecutively.
  • Table titles must be placed above the table, while figure captions must be placed below the figure.
  • Images must be clear, readable, high-resolution and suitable for print publication.
  • Materials reproduced from other sources must be appropriately cited, and the author must obtain any necessary permissions.
8. Citations and References

In-text citations and the reference list must be consistent. Every source cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and every source in the reference list must be cited in the manuscript.

  • Unless another citation system is specified for an edited book, APA 7 style should be used.
  • DOI information should be included when available.
  • Accessible and permanent links should be preferred for online sources.
  • References must be complete, accurate and consistently formatted.
9. Research and Publication Ethics

Authors declare that their work complies with recognised principles of research and publication ethics.

The submitted work must be original, must not have been previously published and must not be under consideration by another publisher. All material obtained from other sources must be appropriately cited.

Individuals listed as authors must have made a significant scholarly or intellectual contribution to the work. Individuals without a substantial contribution must not be listed as authors.

Appropriate approvals must be obtained for research involving human or animal participants, personal data or any study requiring ethics committee review. Approval information must be disclosed in the manuscript.

The use of generative artificial intelligence tools for text generation, language editing, analysis or image creation must be transparently disclosed. Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors.
10. Author Declarations

The following declarations should be included at the end of the manuscript or in the section specified by the publisher:

  • Author contribution statement
  • Conflict of interest statement
  • Funding or financial support statement
  • Ethics committee and research permission statement
  • Artificial intelligence use statement
  • Acknowledgements
11. Evaluation Process

Preliminary review

The submission is reviewed for scope, file completeness, formatting requirements and publication ethics.

Editorial and scholarly evaluation

The work is evaluated by editors or subject specialists in terms of scholarly quality and suitability for publication.

Revision

Authors may be requested to make scholarly, linguistic or formatting revisions.

Publication decision

A decision of acceptance, revision or rejection is issued following the evaluation process.

Typesetting and publication

Accepted works proceed to typesetting, author proofing and publication according to the publishing schedule.

12. Typesetting and Proof Review

Accepted books and book chapters are typeset by the publisher. Once typesetting is complete, a proof file is sent to the corresponding author for final review.

  • Authors must review the proof file within the specified period.
  • Only typographical, layout and factual errors should be corrected during the proofing stage.
  • Substantial additions or deletions that significantly alter the scholarly content are not permitted.
  • The proof approved by the author is considered the final version ready for publication.
